Medical conditions and more...
Delvihen wolves can suffer from a variety of factors. While generally the wolf species are not known to have species based illnesses, there is a variety of problems that can occur, psychic wolves are known to document and name specific medical conditions.
When we speak of disabilities were are looking at medical conditions that are mostly associated with restrictions when it comes to moving, more so with body part for example(motor functions). When we speak of a discorder we will be speaking about medical conditions that are generally associated with mental issues or functions of an individual. Functions meaning that disorders can cause physical issues as well.

Disabilities/differences gained at birth
These are generally earned through accidents the wolf had to face. This can happen during fights or as a result from torture. Below are some disabilities that can be gained by birth, disorders will have their own section so be aware that those generally can also be gained from birth. Looking at the real life counter part of set disorders can help you figure out if it is gained at birth or afterwards.
- Deaf
- Slightly smaller/larger than standard species size
- Blind
- Missing limb
- Absence of a standard marking (small markings)
- Mental damage
- Deformation causing short tail (bobtail)

Disorders
These are generally earned through accidents the wolf had to face. This can happen during fights or as a result from torture. Disorders can be gained through birth or later on in life. These are generally issues that reside within the wolf mental A disorder is an illness that disrupts normal physical or mental functions.
○Anxiety: Anxiety is a feeling of unease, such as worry or fear, that can be mild or severe.
○Symptoms: Feeling restless, easily fatigued, lack of concentration, being irritable, muscle tension, sleep problems, emotional instability.
○Treatment: There is no known treatment other than making life changes for the wolf, and providing them herbs with soothing qualities. Depending on the case it can be very severe or mild. Generally a wolf within a pack suffering from this will be send to their healers for help.
○Calculation disorder(CD): Wolves with this disorder will suffer from a variety of symptoms, this is a learning disorder and therefore gained at birth. The parent figure will be capable to pick up on this as a pup will have issues navigating or going the right way when told ex: told to go left but the pup decides to go right. However it happens often that wolves will not see the signs either. This disorder causes problems during fights too as the individual can mistake the distance between themselves and their opponent. Similar issues are noted during hunting.
○Symptoms: Confusing left for right, difficulty with direction and time, calculating distance, lack of concentration, mistaken recollection of names, poor math skills(during hunts mistaking targets, during trades having a difficulty counting values).
○Treatment: There is no known treatment. If discovered early training and support can increase the capability of the wolf to preform better in which he or she would otherwise have a lot of issues.
(Real life: Discalculia)
○Dread Fright: Dread fright is the abnormal, unwarranted, and persistent fear of failure. As with many phobias, this one will often lead to a constricted lifestyle, and is particularly devastating for its effects on a wolf’s willingness to attempt certain activities or attempt anything unfamiliar.
○Symptoms: Difficulty breathing, fast heart rate, pains in chest, trembling or shaking sensations, dizziness or lightheaded, digestive distress, feeling of hot and cold, panic attacks.
○Treatment: There is no known medication or treatment, however therapy does seem to aid these individuals more so than any soothing herbs. Depending on the severity some wolves can also end up with this only temporarily ex: an individual is about to become pack leader and so suffers from these symptoms.
(Real life: Antychiphobia)
○Snarling rage: This is a behavioral disorder characterized by explosive outbursts of anger and/or violence, often to the point of rage, that are disproportionate to the situation at hand. Wolves living with this disorder within a pack are often watched to ensure the peace is kept. This is done to protect the pack but equally to help the individual as well.
○Symptoms: Rage, irritability, increased energy, racing thoughts, tremors, palpitations, Chest tightness, excessive drooling.
○Treatment: Therapy is mainly used to help such individuals, to aid in a more positive life style and way of thinking.
(Real life: Intermittent explosive disorder)
○Dream terrors: These are known to be experienced by most Delvihen wolves at one point, generally wolves will experience a bad dream and depending on what takes place it can result in increases stress or fear. However there is a more severe case that healers will speak of as the "Dreamt Terror Disorder(DTD)"'. This takes place when a wolf will continuously experience bad nightmares when sleeping. This can become extremely severe and cause a lot of discomfort and more.
○Symptoms: Waking up confused, disorientated, difficulty sleeping, fatigued, lack of energy, major distress, anxiety, fear, continuously thinking about the nightmare, nightmare repeating, lack of concentration.
○Treatment: Wolves suffering from this are known to be treated by healers by various medications(combinations of healing herbs etc...). Personal observation also takes place to figure out what can help the wolf in question to calm down and sleep in peace. Sometimes wolves can recover from this disorder, other times wolves will suffer from it for years.
(Real life: Parasomnia)
○Fright scars: This is a mental health condition that's triggered by a terrifying event either experiencing it or witnessing it. Wolves suffering from this may have intense, disturbing thoughts and feelings related to their experience that last long after the traumatic event has ended. They may relive the event through flashbacks or nightmares; they may feel sadness, fear or anger; and they may feel detached or estranged from other wolves.
○Symptoms: Intrusion, avoidance, alterations in cognition and mood, nightmares, flashbacks, distressing sensations, feeling sick, trembling.
○Treatment: Wolves seem to benefit from a combination of therapy and medication. Herbs to soothe the mind are often used to soothe the wolf and relax them. While therapy can be successful, some wolves will suffer from this condition for years and year to come.
(Real life: Post traumatic stress disorder)
○Repetitive Scratching: This is a behavioral disorder that is pretty common in Delvihen wolves when exposed to high amounts of stress. The individual will keep scratching itself because of how nervous and stressed he or she feels.
○Symptoms: Constant scratching, scratching without realizing, damaged pelt, bald patches.
○Treatment: Treatment comes in forms of medication and relaxing therapy.
○Food aggression: This is a behavioral disorder that is pretty common in Delvihen wolves during their puppy stage. Young pups always have to learn when it comes to sharing, and many pups will generally feature this behavior at first. A cause is likely that young pups are told to defend the piece of food that belongs to them, this can result in food aggression but is generally dealt with quickly. Especially pups growing up together learn to share a lot faster. In rare cases it can occur in teens and older wolves as well. This is often if the wolf has grown up as an only child and is simply not used to share. It can also happen to spoiled pups. In older wolves it can be quite serious as those that are not aware could receive a painful bite as a response of the wolf that is guarding it's food.
○Symptoms: High aggression during feeding, holding on the food with paws, growling/biting at wolves during feeding.
○Treatment: Treatment only comes in theraphy if older, if young it's a behavior that's expected to go away.
○Red Zone: This is a behavioral disorder that is often mistaken for the disease known as "Crazed Fox". This is due to the symptoms being extremely similar. Wolves will appear to be extremely aggressive, drooling and not capable of communication. But the causes is where both this disorder and the virus differ. It is believed that the "Red zone" is an extreme version of "Fright scars". The wolf will experience trauma on such a degree that they will completely lose it and return to a more primitive state only displaying aggressive behavior. Even so, many healers believe that the aggression that is displayed is a form of extreme fear rather than aggression and that similar to their ancestors they respond in aggression due to fear. Red zone is extremely rare and doesn't generally take place but if it does, it appears in wolves that are isolated for many years with little to no contact. They lose the capability and link of deep telepathy meaning they have no way to communicate nor the capability to understand another wolf. Sadly due to the extreme aggression and the wolf in question targeting anything in sight, they are always put down similar to wolves suffering from "Crazed Fox". Healers to this day always wonder how the wolf functions and if they still think to themselves.
○Symptoms: Agitated, drooling excessively, high fear, aggression, constant growling/snarling, loss of communicating, high anxiety, stress, lack of pupil, biting and damaging itself.
○Treatment: There is no known treatment and wolves suffering from this are put down.
○Silent senses: This is a growth disorder that causes a lot of discomfort for the wolf in question. The wolf is born with a malfunction to it's ability known as "dragon senses". This malfunction mainly seems to target their capability for open telepathy. This means that unlike other wolves they have no access to open telepathy and therefore no way of communicating through words. This is extremely confusing for pups as they will have no clue on what is going on or what is being said to them as they can't pick up on it. Parents who notice it or get a diagnosis from a healer will be forced to dig in their more primitive behaviors to try and communicate with the wolf in question that way. This means that more primitive language will be the key for such individuals. This being tail wagging, growling, ear movement etc. Healers believe that these individuals do not go in a state of deep telepathy either, as they only learned a physical language. So it always remains a mystery for healers on what these wolves might be thinking.
○Symptoms: Lack of speech, lack of telepathy
○Treatment: There is no known treatment.
○Depression: Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. It affects how the wolf feels, thinks and behaves and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. The individual might have trouble doing normal day-to-day activities, and sometimes they may feel as if life isn't worth living, or as if life has no point. In Delvihen wolves cases from milk to severe can be seen. Some wolves develop chronic depression others suffer for a few months up to some years. Delvihen wolves with this can have an elemental imbalance, which causes them to release elemental attacks with to much energy and therefore draining themselves faster.
○Symptoms: Feelings of sadness/desperation/emptiness/worthlessness/guilt, outbursts of emotional imbalance, lost of intrest, tiredness, reduced or increased appetite, sleep disturbances, anxiety, lack of concentration, physical aches, suicidal.
○Treatment: Therapy is the most recommended treatment, healers have combined this at times with soothing brews.
(Real life:Depression/chronic depression)
○Compulsive Barker: This is a disorder in which Delvihen wolves have recurring, unwanted thoughts, ideas or sensations (obsessions) that make them feel driven to do something repetitively. The repetitive behaviors, such as constant nervous grooming, nail biting, can significantly interfere with a wolf’s daily activities and social interactions. Their thoughts are persistent, and behaviors are rigid. Not performing the behaviors commonly causes great distress.
○Symptoms: Excessive grooming/nail biting, repetitive behavior, constantly seeking approval, chasing tail, spinning circles, snapping at thin air, pacing, excessive drinking of water or eating dirt, barking excessively in the same pattern.
○Treatment: Therapy in combination with medical brews are used to treat wolves and help them to normalize their life.
(Real life: Canine compulsive disorder)
○Paranoia: Delvihen wolves suffering from paranoia are always on guard, believing that other wolves are constantly trying to demean, harm, or threaten them. These generally unfounded beliefs, as well as their habits of blame and distrust, might interfere with their ability to form close relationships. They tend to mistake behaviors easily as harmful to themselves. Many of these wolves tend to become very isolated.
○Symptoms: Doubting the commitment/loyalty/trustworthiness of others, believing others are using or deceiving them, avoid sharing personal information due to a fear that the information will be used against them,Are unforgiving and hold grudges, Are hypersensitive and take criticism poorly, have recurrent suspicions without reason, are generally cold and distant in their relationships with others, suffer from jealousy, difficulty relaxing, hostile, stubborn, and argumentative.
○Treatment: Therapy is recommend, but treatment can be challenging, not all wolves suffering from this disorder will actually admit it. Some will refuse treatment or medical brews in fear it's something to harm them. If treatment is accepted, healers will do their best to aid these wolves in finding a more relaxing and less harmful way of living.
(Real life: Paranoid personailty disorder)
○Sugar fatigue: This is a metabolism disorder. This is when the wolf’s body isn’t producing enough insulin. This happens when the pancreas is damaged or otherwise not functioning properly. wolves with sugar fatigue need daily treatment, if not provided it will become lethal. Equally they have to deal with with the rise of sugars which can be caused by to much intake or stress/anxiety. Due to the lack of knowledge or accessibility of treatment many have been known to die from it.
○Symptoms: Excessive thirst, weight loss, increased appetite, loss of appetite, lack of energy, vomiting, cataracts, enlarged liver, seizures, tract diseases, kidney failure
○Treatment: Wolves suffering from this have to consume fruits in order to gain enough sugars in their systems, however when they need to decrease the amount of sugar they will require a fruit that can only be found in the "Mudlands". This fruit is known to drain sugar from the individual that eats it. Because of this, many healers will always attempt to acquire the seeds required to plant these..
(Real life: Insulin deficiency diabetes in canines)
○Crazed/Psychopathic wolf: This is a neuropsychiatric disorder marked by deficient emotional responses, lack of empathy, and poor behavioral controls, commonly resulting in persistent antisocial deviance and criminal behavior. Delvihen wolves with this are said to blend in perfectly in most cases hiding darker sides of themselves from others. This behavior leads to violent results, as capturing and torturing fellow wolves is common. There are many versions of this, as some wolves will be more interested to explore and torture not necessarily taking pleasure in their actions or hating them. While others do it for the sensation of hunting down and harming their targets.
○Symptoms: Socially irresponsible behavior, disregarding or violating the rights of others, inability to distinguish between right and wrong, difficulty with showing remorse or empathy, tendency to lie often, manipulating and hurting others.
○Treatment: There is no known treatment. Most wolves with this will either end up locked away by the Tanlin Clans, or will end up killed within their own pack if seen as a threat. There are cases of wolves whom have their tendencies under control and therefore are still capable of staying within the pack. In some cases such wolves have an outlet if trained to become a torturer for the pack.
(Real life: psychopathy)

Diseases and parasites
○Crazed fox: Crazed fox is a viral disease most often transmitted through the bite of a crazed animal. On Delv Ihoo, species of foxes are known to transmit it to Delvihen wolves as they seem to be the main mammal on the island to be prone to this disease and therefore transfer it. The disease itself is not known to come or start from any of the Delvihen wolf species. Because it was documented in Delvihen foxes the wolves named this disease "Crazed fox". The crazed fox virus infects the central nervous system of bitten mammal, ultimately causing disease in the brain and death. A wolf diagnosed with this is sadly a dead wolf as no known treatments are known to counter this. To protect the pack or society, such wolves will be targeted and killed. The risk of such a wolf being left alive are to great, and could cause dead to others or further infection.
○Symptoms: Agitated, drooling excessively, lack of fear, aggression, staggering, seizures, constant growling/snarling, lack of communicating.
○Treatment: There is no known treatment, as such individuals are put down.
(Real life: Rabies)
○Stone pads: This is a viral disease that affects several body systems, including the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts and the spinal cord and brain. The disease is highly contagious via inhalation and therefore healers will use elemental energy as a constant protection layer on their skin. Equally the wolf is not allowed to walk among it's fellow pack mates. It's believed that shatter's carry the disease and transfer them to young wolves that escape their attack. As shatter's are immune to the effects.
○Symptoms: high fever, eye inflammation and eye/nose discharge, labored breathing and coughing, vomiting and diarrhea, loss of appetite and lethargy, and hardening of nose and paw pads.
○Treatment: Treatment comes in form of medication that is specifically made from healing seaweed. The treatment can take up to months.
(Real life: Canine distemper)
○Red nose: This is an acute contagious disease caused by the inflammation in the liver and possibly necrosis (cell death). This comes in mild and severe cases. Red nose can be treated and while contagious Delvihen wolves due to evolution have been known to rarely spread it. As their ancestors could pass it down to once another by feces, nasal discharge and urine. Because Delivhen wolves evolved over the years, some more primitive behaviors would have caused an easy spread of the virus. Now a days it seems saliva is the main culprit, as wolves grooming one another could pass it down.
○Symptoms: Decrease in appetite, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, excessive thirst, swollen belly, bruised or reddened nose and mouth.
○Treatment: Treatment comes in form of medication made of plants that are generally found in "Forester Woods".
(Real life: Infectious canine hepatitis)
○Stomach stabbers: This is a common parasite that appears if a wolf has consumed spoiled meat. While wolves of the "Mud species" might be safe when it comes to eating spoiled meat, most Delvihen species are not. Generally it is safer to eat fresh meat and not risk consuming meat that has been laying around for a while or is found untouched(dead animals). If consumed a parasite Delvihen wolves refer to as "stomach stabbers" will invade the wolf it's stomach. Wolves are said to experience a painful stabbing like sensation in their stomach.
○Symptoms: Decrease in appetite, vomiting, painful stabbing sensation at the stomach.
○Treatment: Treatment suggest that the wolf has to bathe in hot springs or consume spicy types of food. It seems the heat it self will cause these creatures to die. Fire wolves for instance can easily get rid of it, as heating their body up will kill the parasites as well.
○Red eye: This is a rare parasite that can appears if a wolf has a low immunity, this can be due to illness or extreme exhaustion. The parasite in question exists within the wolf passively and is rarely activated due to elemental energy. If activated however it will cause a huge lack of energy and the eyes will gain faint red veins.
○Symptoms: Lack of energy, fatigued, constantly sleeping.
○Treatment: Treatment depends on how the wolf ended up in this situation, generally healers will try to figure out what caused it so that can be treated first. In time most wolves will naturally heal from this.
○Serpent worm: This is a common parasite that is gained if wolves drink contaminated water or food on which serpent worms laid eggs. Due to the lengt of the parasite Delvihen wolves refer to it as "serpent worm".
○Symptoms: Nausea, abdominal pain, hunger or loss of appetite, fatigued, weight loss, vitamin and mineral deficiencies.
○Treatment: Treatment comes in form of medication, as there is a type of brew that is made of specific plants that have no effect on wolves but do paralyze smaller creatures such as parasites. This will paralyze the invader and so the wolf will be able to pass it down and recover.
(Real life: Tape worm)
○Delvihen Lice: These are tiny, wingless, parasitic insects that feed on mammal blood. Lice are easily spread as wolves tend to sleep, play, hunt and train together. Delvihen lice are often found on elderly types of Delvihen deer that no longer groom or take care of their hygiene, therefore many packs will generally avoid to hunt older deer that have signs of a dirty pelt. If a pack does decide to hunt set individuals, it will result in a lice infestation within the pack. Of course the lice can jump onto different mammals as well, therefore it's not unusual for them to end up on healthy individuals that slept in the grass where an infested deer might have slept.
○Symptoms: Scratching, constant feel of itchiness, scratch wounds, rolling over the floor.
○Treatment: Treatment comes in several options, hot springs seems extremely effective. Equally cold environments if exposed for several hours too will kill of the lice. Releasing elemental waves of activating elemental energy can also eventually kill of all the lice.
(Real life: Lice)
○Skin eaters: This is a type of skin disease caused by parasitic mites that are highly contagious. It's commonly spread by wildlife such as raccoons and foxes on Delv Ihoo. The parasites will burrow in the skin of the wolf and lay their eggs, in return the hatch-lings will feast on the skin. A wolf suffering from this will start to lose fur and expose very damaged skin. In packs if it occurs they are kept seperate from the rest of the pack until treatment has taken place.
○Symptoms: Scratching, extreme itchiness, redness and rashes, loss of fur, thickening of the skin, bald patches, many wounds on the skin.
○Treatment: The only known treatment is "Light treatment". This is done by light wolves of the Tanlin Clans. As they will expose the body to huge amounts of light to kill of the insects. The tiny parasites are known to be extremely sturdy even surviving extreme cold/hot temperatures. For shadow wolves this procedure is extremely painful, and often they are put to sleep to spare the wolf from as much pain as possible.

○Runny nose: This disease occurs most often in wolves that have a low immunity. This happens when wolves are exposed to extreme temperatures they cannot handle. When this happens the wolf will become sick. The first signs are that of a runny nose. This can go from mild to severe, as some wolves will only suffer from a runny nose and exhaustion while others will have worse symptoms.
○Symptoms: Runny nose, shivers, feeling hot/cold, fever, exhaustion, coughing, head aches.
○Treatment: Treatment comes in regular healing brews and a lot of rest.
(Real life: Cold/Flue)

- Some medical conditions are named differently to suit the wolves of Delv Ihoo. As specific terms made by humanity would really feel out of this world. Therefore be aware that some of these conditions are named more "on point" of how these wolves view it.
