Mud SpeciesThe Mud species is endangered, and only found around the Mudlands. Ever since their kind was targeted by the Shadow Clans because of one of their practiced ranks, their numbers heavily declined. Mud wolves are known to be easygoing and relaxed. They avoid conflict and welcome wolves to their hot mud baths. They are extremely social with each other, and have a rather unusual diet. Aside from their abilities to manipulate mud, they are known for being talented assassins and hunters. Their rank of assassins is rather unusual due to their laid-back nature.

Behaviour
Mud wolves are one of the most easy going species around, and they are usually extremely relaxed and open minded. They enjoy having travelers visit, and even help guide them. They love to take mud baths, relax and joke around. Aside from this, some behaviours are considered rather odd. Their kind has specialized in assassinations, and with the Shadow Clans targeting them, some Mud packs turned on each other and some packs chose to remove assassins from their society. They are also known to eat their prey alive, using shock to their advantage instead of suffocating their prey by their neck. They do fear the Sabodon, who resides in the Mudlands and hunts Mud wolves.
Mud wolves are extremely social, and the pack mentality is heavily valued. A lone mud wolf is almost unheard of, as without social company, they tend to become depressed. They have the habit to lean against each other and will also groom their pack-mates a lot more than other wolf species. They always eat and sleep together as a pack. A sign of affection is often shown when they curl their tails together. Socially, non-symbolized and non-marked wolves have a higher rank, as they value looking alike more than looking different. |
DietTheir diet is very unusual, and their habit is even more so. Mud wolves have ageusia, so they cannot taste. Therefore, they will consume nearly anything except fruits. While the taste doesn’t set them off, they will feel ill if they eat fruit. They will eat all sorts of things; meat, bugs, fish, reptiles and amphibians. They aren’t repelled by the smell, and will even consume food covered in mud or dirt. They are also known to eat other carnivores such as bears, and sometimes very rarely, wolves.
ReproductionAfter a bonding process, the Mud wolves will usually mate for life. They are sexually mature around the age of 18. Matching personalities are far more common to bond and connect than if they have opposite personalities. Mating usually takes place in shallow mud pools. After mating, females will have a gestation period of 60 to 90 days before giving birth. Males will guard their mate, while the females will dig dens underground for giving birth. Pups are born blind and deaf, and gain sight and hearing after a week. Their ears can be both floppy or straight, and at the age of 3 years, no sign of ear flop remains. Floppy eared pups have less hearing until they straighten up. Parents will carefully watch their offspring as they are known to be curious.

Young mud wolves lack an ability that is gained upon growing older. Mud wolves believe that around the age of 10 the'll gain the ability "Mudproof". This allows mud wolves to move smoothly through mud and muddy waters. However young pups are known to imitate parents and it isn't unheard of for mud wolf puppies to drown in these muddy graves. They have not yet developed the same properties within their pelt that older mud wolves have. Therefore moving around in mud is as difficult for them as it would be for any other species. Over time the parents of this species have learned to always keep close watch, even the idea of pups playing without an adult nearby is out of the question.
- During gestation the female will prefer clean sources of food.
Physical Appearance
Mud wolves have brown fur, with darker brown markings on their leg, tail, chest and ears. They also have a lighter tail tip and inner ears, which is fluffier than average. Their ears are round and large, allowing them to cool off if they get too warm as their territory can get rather hot. Their tail is thin, with a thinner base that gradually grows larger and longer near the end. Their bite has quite some power due to their cheek muscles, and they rely on stamina and physical power to take down prey. They have rather short fur except for their chests which has longer fur. They are one of the tallest species thanks to their long legs, but this also makes them rather fragile. They have visible webbing between their toes to help them traverse muddy terrain.
- Males have shorter sock markings on their feet, but have stripe-marking stretching from their chest to their stomach across the shoulder, pointing down. Their tail marking is shorter than females. They have larger chest fur, and their cheek fur points upwards. They also have slightly more fur at the back of their shoulders.
- Females have slightly shorter chest markings which ends right by their bellies. Their cheek fur points partly upwards and downwards. Their light tail-tip marking is much larger, and their colored socks stretches up their leg farther than males.
Powers and Abilities
Common moves
- Mud shot: Mud wolves can generate mud within their mouths, and thanks to their lack of taste, it doesn't bother them. While mud is often used more so to slow down opponents "Mud shot" is used to damage. The higher pressure of mud they are spitting with this move will send targets flying, or is strong enough to force em back.
- Mud Bomb: With "Mud bomb" they will generate mud into a ball which they'll make bigger the more elemental energy they use. Once ready they will launch it into the air, ready to fall down on opponents. This move on impact can hurt, but it's goal is to slow down and trap a wolf.
- Mud spit: When they spit mud at low pressure it is usually done so for the sake of slowing down. Therefore they will usually aim this attack towards the floor causing a slippery and sticky floor for their target to run into.
- Mud Vortex: If skilled, a mud wolf is capable of creating a muddy vortex. This is a move that requires a perfect balance between "Mud shot, Mud bomb and Mud spit". Rather than low and high pressure they'll combine both aspects to create a vortex. They'll start by generating a ball of mud similar to mud bomb. Afterwards rather than sending it off, they'll use more elemental energy to add more pressure to their attack. When launching it they'll need a lot of control to avoid the typical mud shot but instead allow for a wider range. This way the attack covers more space and less opportunity's for target to escape from. The attack doesn't only damage the wolf badly, but the wolf in question will be trapped within for as long as the mud wolf ca, hold the attack. With the control over the vortex they will usually launch it towards the sky to send their trapped wolf straight into the air, where a high fall could mean death.
Abilities
- Mud manipulation: This allows for mud wolves to manipulate regular dirt patches or clean pools, and to turn them into muddy pools. This is done so by touch, meaning that the mud wolves will place their paws into the water or the patch and so will cause the change. The earth on dirt patches will become lose and moist which can trap wolves in it with their paws. When they turn pools into muddy waters it can be extremely deadly. Regular wolves cannot swim that well through mud, so this could result in the trapped wolf drowning. For this to succeed they do need pools or really small lakes, the moment a lake is to big, the manipulation requires to much energy and will fail. They can manipulate mud into attacks as well but their control is low in contrast to Forester wolves who for instance can control vines. Mud wolves can only manipulate small amounts of mud, so entire waves of mud are not likely to happen.
- Mudproof: This ability grants mud wolves the possibility to swim through mud as if it was water. It is known that this ability is only gained at an older age, meaning that a wolf below 10 years old will not have this yet. Once they pass 10 they'll be capable of smoothly moving through the mud. Their coat will resist the muddy water and in a sense push it away, which allows for them to swim through it. This helps a lot when it comes to escaping from different species. When it comes to more dry mud, the effect does not work.
- Mud coat: When mud wolves roll around in more dry mud their pelt seems to drain elemental particles from this, which in return boosts the health of their pelt but also boosts their special defensive skills. It protects and repels elemental attacks to a degree.
- Soothing mud: It is known that mud baths can feel soothing and can even aid different species to recover faster. However mud wolves heal a whole lot quicker if they take mud baths. Since mud is their element it seems to increase the amount of which they heal from injuries incredibly. Mud springs being the most effective.
- Strong stomach: Mud wolves lack taste, and therefore aren't picky eaters. They simply eat to fill up their stomach. But they also have inherited an ability which comes in quite handy. While they do seem to have a weakness to fruits, they have an incredible stomach to nearly anything else. From fish to meat, bugs, birds and even reptiles. Their stomach can handle it. But they can even eat spoiled meat, as it is this very ability that will protect them from getting sick. Their stomach acid is extremely strong against different types of meat, or even spoiled meat. Therefore any parasites will be taken care of. Even so fruit is the only thing that will get a mud wolf sick.
Mythical abilities
- Muddy clone: This mythical ability is quite special, a mud wolf that managed to gain this ability is capable of making a clone of itself that consists of mud alone. The mud being liquid from the inside and protected by thicker mud on the outside will fight exactly as the wolf who uses the ability. The clone will even be capable of sending mud shots/bombs. It's known that mud wolves who master this will often call upon it to fight against it, as training against themselves will always leave a bigger opportunity to become better. While some mythical abilities are considered more deadly, this one can quickly turn deadly as a solo wolf having to deal with two skilled wolves (one being mud) can be quite tricky.
HabitatMud wolves are rarely seen outside of their habitat of origin, The Mudlands. They have been spotted around their borders, but it’s rare to see them anywhere else. If seen elsewhere ,they will usually prefer deep forests with lakes or streams. They will usually avoid deserts or places they consider too hot and too dry. They are known to to travel in the mountain pass near their territory, but only to guide travelers safely in and out of their territory.
