The Tanlin Clans
Known as one of the oldest societies on Delv Ihoo, the Tanlin Clans have been around since the very early days of the light species' existence. The light Goddess Ashaiyo was said to have started the clan in order to unite the light species as not just several packs but as one united society that became known as a kingdom. On Delv Ihoo the word "kingdom" isn't often used, as this is a system that is not followed by many packs. The kingdom was formed by merging all the light packs into one society, which is then ruled by a king and queen.
The clan was known for its righteous ways, such as protecting the land and fellow wolf species. But in recent years some wolves began to question their motives with the rise of the new Queen, this being Reika.

History
When the light species formed, the light Goddess herself wanted her species to remain united with one another, rather than to break off and spread all over the island. She is said to have started the clan, and chose a few individuals which she would grant her blessing to. These few wolves became the start of what is known as the Royal bloodline. The connection between light wolves and Ashaiyo has been said to be extremely strong, with the goddess said to be often visible and even bathing in the falls of this territory. Light wolves are very religious towards their dragon, and even towards other dragon gods. Only in recent years have light wolves dealt with a rather strange situation, as their Goddess can no longer be found.
|
The society was named the "Tanlin Clans", where Tanlin is a word from dragon tongue which means "light". Unlike other wolf packs, the Tanlin Clans followed a kingdom-like ruling. For generations wolves of the royal bloodline have been in charge. While they have a huge amount of control, they also have a council, these being wolves of high status and both wolves of the current ruling royal bloodline and wolves of different royal bloodlines. This council prevents any king or queen from making instant changes if they deem it unwise. But they also ensure that specific standards are held. Over the years, a few groups of wolves left the Tanlin Clans, as some simply didn’t adjust well with the Kingdom-like society, and this caused a few packs of Light wolves to re-emerge, though these are very few.
The Tanlin Clans are viewed as a higher source of power on the island as most packs, despite having their own leaders and systems, obeys the rule of this clan. This is partly due to respect for what this clan has done, and partly since they are a very large and strong force. Compared to most packs where their number of members is far less. This means that light wolves are rarely denied access in territories outside of their own, and get treated well and respected by other packs. This relationship is mutual, as wolves dealing with issues or potentially dangerous wolves and criminals, can call for aid from the Tanlin Clans. More often than not, they have been known to travel and solve problems outside of their own lands.

Aside from the general acceptance on the island, what makes this pack so strong to any form of resistance is the fact that they have an additional army that is bound to the rule of the current king or queen of the Tanlin Clans. The dragon god of Raishida Valley referred to Ashaiyo as a Goddess and servant of the heavens, his admiration for her became an admiration for the light species. This became reflected in the electric species as a strong alliance was formed between the two societies. Early on, bonds were established and this society looked up so greatly towards the light wolves that they followed a similar system. Their land is ruled by a king and queen as well. They promised obedience and loyalty to the Tanlin Clans with the only expectation that they could live their own society on their own rules. Because of this it can be confusing as light wolves are far more laid back in comparison to electric wolves that are usually quite serious.
While the Tanlin Clans are known for their noble deeds and the protection of the island, their rule has been questioned with the rise of their new queen. This has caused a few individuals within this society to leave the Tanlin Clans as well. Rumors have spread that there is a connection between the Tanlin Clans and the Shadow Clans, which is something the Tanlin Clans fully deny.

General behavior
Light wolves are said to be extremely religious towards the gods. They are considered very naive as they will blindly follow orders of their king or queen. They believe the words of their ruler are absolute and will not go against it or question it. Wolves against the kingdom are usually not accepted. While their society is led by one ruler, some have left this way of living to live on their own terms, however, most are proud to be under the grace of their ruler. They do welcome strangers with tales of their Goddess and ruler. Light wolves value their status and appearance and will at all times ensure that their pelt remains clean. Because of this, they will often bathe in the springs within their habitat. They are only known to fear the ability of Shadow wolves at night. Aside from that there isn’t much they fear. They will only hunt in full daylight. Females are more fierce compared to males.
The royal bloodline
The royal bloodline was created by their dragon goddess who chose specific individuals in the past that gained her blessing. This over time caused a unique trait to develop in these parts of the bloodline. This trait itself is only visible in females of this species, as wolves suspect this is connected to the gender of their goddess. These traits have been named "royal traits" by wolves of the light species, light wolves themselves are said to highly respect those who possess these traits. Females of this bloodline can be born with a tail that resembles that of their goddess closer, and when they activate their light wings, these will usually have four enlarged feathers that stand out. The bloodline in charge, meaning those that can become queen or king, are said to be part of the oldest bloodline. They are believed to be direct descendants
|
of the first wolf to ever receive a blessing from Ashaiyo. Other royal bloodlines can only become rulers of this clan if either a royal bloodline dies out, or steps down. Those born in this bloodline are expected to follow standards set by the council. This very council ensures that a ruler does not overthrow established rules without a vote. The expectations that are held are the followings:
- A ruler needs a partner by their side, the only thing that can overthrow this rule is a deceased partner.
- A ruler needs a descendant, this means even without a partner by their side it is expected that they find a new partner and have an heir.
- They are to pair with a light wolf of the opposite sex.
- A ruler needs to put the well being of the society before their own.
When a wolf of royal bloodlines refuses to accept, or wishes to not follow these rules, they can step down and drop their royal title. Even if they have the bloodline, they will lose all their royal rights within the pack. This can occur if a light wolf of this line finds a partner outside of her own species, or finds a mate with the same sex. When they step down they cannot go back, not even if they follow the expected rules.
While it has not occurred, if a king or queen were to have offspring with a wolf of a different species, the child itself does have rights to the royal bloodline if they have the light element. The parent figure of the other species however would not gain any royal rights or titles. |
Location
The Tanlin Clans are located in the Tanlin Falls, the land to which their species is native to. These lands are said to be one of the most beautiful locations on the island. The vegetation and nature itself is quite unearthly, similar to some other locations such as the Poison Forest. This area transformed completely to match their goddess and eventually the light species too. Their locations have a lot of benefits, far more than one would initially think. Not only is the wildlife known to be quite passive, but their habitat is surrounded by a mountain range. This keeps out different species of wolves and animals, and also forms a great defense for their territory. Due to the light coloration, it is also quite obvious if an invasive species enters.
Justice system
The Tanlin Clans are seen as the largest force on Delv Ihoo, not just as a large clan, but as a powerful society as well. Early on, they established the need to ensure the safety of Delvihen wolves on the island. After all, with wolves growing more intelligent, the rise of those with more sinister motives would rise as well. Because of these potential growing threat, packs around Delv Ihoo agreed to benefit from this protection but equally allowed free range to this clan. The benefits weren't just protection, but often also aid in healing in case of spreading diseases and more. Some are said to have disagreed with these laws, such as wolves who reside in the Poison forest and wind wolves. Some other species were said to also deny such free range, which also would lead to them not having Tanlin’s protection and aid. While the Tanlin
|
Clans generally do not interfere with the pack system of different species that don’t believe in them, they will interfere and take action on reports of slavery, abuse, murder, theft and more. This also depends on the situation, as two wolves having an argument can result in bites, this would not land a wolf in prison. Usually the offense had to be one sided or unprovoked, or the target was incapable of protecting themselves (child, disabled, etc)
The Tanlin Clans, with help from earth wolves, built a large prison located within Tanlin Falls, where those they captured are sent to await trial. The prison is said to be uniquely designed as it was coated with a special type of stone native to their environment. This type of stone |
cannot be manipulated by earth wolves, and therefore the re-shapen earth combined with this coating causes for a sturdy and resilient prison. In most cases wolves who are imprisoned are to serve a sentence and then be released. In extreme cases such as mass murder, the individual will be sentenced to death.
Tanlin law
The Tanlin clans have a lot of laws to ensure the safety of Delv Ihoo and ruling within their society. While not all will be listed for now, some of the main important ones will be (excluding the expected laws of the royal bloodline as they are mentioned earlier), going against the rule of the ruler, abandoning a fellow pack member, over hunting.
- The following will always result in prison: Abuse, murder, assault, theft, destruction of environment (extreme cases), insult/attack to the Tanlin Clan King or Queen, insult towards the dragon goddess Ashaiyo.
- Underaged prisoners cannot be harmed.
- Prison related rules can be overthrown if the prisoner is tied to packs or societies that are deemed a threat.
- Royal bloodline only can become king or queen.
- Soldier ranked wolves are to protect their society.
- Royal rulers have to oversee the land and their followers, they do not have to hunt and should always be provided for.
- Clean communication, usage of bad words is discouraged.
- Wolves can be banished if they abandon a fellow pack member, or refuse to follow their royal leaders.
- Native wildlife is to be respected, overhunting is not allowed.
- Help has to be provided to native wildlife in trouble.
- Light wolf pelt should be kept clean and washed regularly.
- Pack members are to provide the pack with food and to take responsibility for merchant work and looking after pups.
Association with the Dyelaq Clans
Just like some smaller societies denied full free range of the Tanlin clans, the Dyelaq clans didn’t agree to such free and unquestionable power, and denied access to their territories. The Dyelaq Clans were considered a huge society as well, but unlike the Tanlin Clans, they are spread out over different territories in smaller packs. Darker practices were common in this society, which led to accused wolves being protected and not delivered to the Tanlin Clans. Because of this dispute, the Tanlin Clans would focus on the capture of such wolves if they committed a crime to their knowledge. There was a lot of tension between both societies, as without proof of any wrongdoings or criminal activity, the Tanlin Clans could not step in to take action. Not only that, the light wolves that reside within this society did originate from their
|
lands as well. Over time, while the tensions only grew, they generally kept a close eye on this society and would take action if they could prove any wrong doings.. But due to the lack of access they weren't allowed to enter their territory and investigate their ranks, habits and more.
Well known ranks
The Tanlin Clans are most known for the following ranks: king/queen, commander, general, soldier, peacekeeper, teacher, merchant and healer.
- King/queen: The royal bloodline in charge of the Tanlin Clans. This rank is rarely seen as most packs follow a leader based system. The Tanlin clans, alongside a few other societies, follow a kingdom-like structure. Their ruler is decided by bloodline.
- Commander: Due to how large the society is, it is only normal that commander is a well known rank in order to maintain order over this huge society. Commanders can be wolves outside of the royal bloodline. These can be individuals that have proven themselves with skills and commanding qualities.
- General: The size of this society sees to it that generals are required to assist the commander. Generals are usually chosen by commanders and they do not require royal blood.
- Soldier: These wolves are considered the force and army of this society. They protect the borders and the land of Delv Ihoo. They are expected to protect the pack members within their society with their lives. In return they do have quite some benefits, as they are not expected to hunt, instead pack members are expected to hunt food for them.
- Peacekeeper: Due to their past origins of protecting the land and solving issues outside their own habitat, this role was often taught to resolve an issue without having to resort to a physical fight. This means that most commanders of the Tanlin clans were trained for this as well.
- Teacher: Being one of the largest, oldest, and most well known societies to have been formed, they hold a lot of knowledge and information. They are said to teach allied packs about Delv Ihoo and provide lessons on different species to future leaders of outside wolf packs.
- Merchant: This rank is very common within this society as obtaining and trading goods helps them greatly. Because of their strict hunting rules and their protected territories, their prey usually sell for a lot higher outside of their territories. They are also focused on selling, trading and obtaining gemstones and artifacts.
- Healer: Due to their healing abilities they focus greatly on this rank, as they could provide both inside and outside of their pack with this gift.
Motives and goals
The goal and motives of this society was to maintain peace and order. For generations they have been seen as the peacekeepers, and wolves outside of their society praised them for it. In recent years however, their motives and goals caused some to question their motives, as some believe it isn't truthful anymore. However, the faith in this clan is still strong and high across the island.
